Residents in the Wainwright area may notice smoke and increased emergency vehicle activity over the coming weeks as Canadian Forces Base Wainwright begins a series of controlled burns.
The fuel reduction burns are scheduled to run from April 10 to May 5 in designated areas of the base.
Officials say the burns are part of an ongoing fire mitigation plan aimed at reducing grassy overgrowth that could otherwise fuel uncontrolled grassfires.
There is no expected impact outside the base perimeter.
Fire suppression crews and equipment will be on site throughout the operation, with multiple safety measures in place. Burns will only proceed under suitable weather conditions.
Nearby residents are advised that visible smoke may be present from a distance, along with increased emergency response activity in the area.
Public concerns requiring immediate assistance should be directed to the nearest fire service.
The Range and Training Area at the base remains a controlled-access zone, and unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited.
