A long-planned surgery, originally set for spring of last year, is the reason Lakeland MP Shannon Stubbs was unable to vote in yesterday’s pivotal confidence vote. Members of her staff posted this on her official Facebook account at 7:05 p.m. last night ( Nov. 17 ).
“MP Stubbs has been on approved medical leave. She is in the early stages of recovery from major jaw and chin surgery performed at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. The procedure corrected a significant medical condition rooted in complications from birth, after years of specialist assessments and medical planning. Her surgical team ordered several weeks of strict bedrest, no speaking, and limited movement to ensure a safe recovery. She remains grateful to the hospital staff for their care and professionalism.
The surgery was originally set for last spring, but it was postponed when the Liberals called an election. When it was rescheduled, very few surgical dates were available. At the time, no one had any information about the Liberals’ budget schedule, and the government repeatedly shifted the budget date. All medical approvals were granted months before any notice of the budget.
Her constituency office in Two Hills remains fully open to serve the people of Lakeland.
Members of the public were quick to question why she was not available for one of the most important votes of the years. Her vote along party lines would have made the final 170-169, still allowing for the budget to get through.
The Border Pulse would like to thank readers for bringing this update to our attention overnight.
