The local RCMP detachment is set to receive three new officers in the coming months, including one arriving this month.
The update comes as part of a province-wide deployment of 21 newly trained RCMP officers across Alberta.
In conversations with Lloydminster RCMP Inspector Brian Nicholl, as well as his recent address to council, he confirmed one of these officers from the specific “K” division troop, is coming to Lloyd. With more expected.
“They will arrive this month. We are also expecting two more officers in the coming months to our detachment,” stated Nicholl.
The new officers are a mix of relocations and those recently graduated from the RCMP’s Depot training academy in Regina, Sask., and are now being assigned to communities across the province.
Part of broader staffing push
The incoming officers are part of a broader effort by the K Division to address staffing shortages and improve police visibility.
Since April 2024, more than 5,700 applications have been submitted across the province. The RCMP has also hired 25 experienced officers since April 2025, with 33 more applications currently being processed.
“We recognize that police visibility and staffing levels remain key concerns for the communities we serve,” said Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux, commanding officer of the Alberta RCMP.
“These new police officers are an example of our focus to remove barriers and ensure qualified applicants are chosen to serve your communities.”
What it means for Lloydminster
While only one officer is arriving immediately, the expectation of two additional members in the coming months signals gradual reinforcement for the Lloydminster detachment.
Local policing demand continues to stretch across both Alberta and Saskatchewan, making staffing levels a key concern for residents.
The RCMP says recruitment efforts are ongoing, with more officers expected to be trained and deployed in future intakes.
