Onion Lake RCMP have charged a man and issued a warrant for his arrest after an armed robbery on Onion Lake Cree Nation.
Police received a report of the robbery at approximately 11:55 p.m. on July 31, RCMP said.
Investigation determined a male suspect approached a victim, assaulted them and threatened them with a firearm before stealing their phone, RCMP said. The suspect then fled in a vehicle.
The victim did not report physical injuries to police.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop, RCMP said. Officers continued patrolling the area but did not locate it again.
Dakota Whitstone, 28, has been charged with assault, robbery with a firearm, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order condition.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Mounties are working to locate Whitstone and ask anyone who sees him not to approach him.
Whitstone is described as approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
