Saskatchewan recorded one of the strongest year-over-year increases in building construction investment in the country in December.

New figures released by Statistics Canada show the province saw a 21.8 per cent increase in building construction investment in December 2025 compared to December 2024, seasonally adjusted. That placed Saskatchewan second among the provinces.

The province also posted a 10.1 per cent month-over-month increase from November to December 2025, ranking first nationally in that category.

Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said the numbers reflect continued economic momentum.

“Once again, Saskatchewan’s economy continues to grow,” Kaeding said.

“Investment in building construction leads to new jobs for our workforce, and new infrastructure for our communities. This helps all of us succeed.”

Investment in building construction measures the total spending value on building projects within the province.

According to the latest GDP figures from Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s 2024 real GDP reached $83.6 billion. That represents an increase of $2.5 billion, or 3.1 per cent, over the previous year. The province ranked second nationally for real GDP growth, above the Canadian average of 1.7 per cent.

The provincial government recently launched its “Securing the Next Decade of Growth” investment attraction strategy. Officials say the plan aims to draw new business and capital to Saskatchewan over the coming years.

The numbers suggest construction activity remains a key driver of the province’s broader economic growth heading into 2026.
