Three collisions in two hours, closed highway near maidstone

A follow up with Saskatchewan RCMP F Division has confirmed three collisions occurred near Maidstone, Sask. within under two hours on Nov. 21, temporarily closing portions of Highway 16.

RCMP say the first crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. when a car struck a semi east of Maidstone and caught fire. Fire crews and EMS responded. Two people in the car were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries, while the semi driver was not hurt.

Around 6:30 p.m., officers were called to a second collision at Township Road 480 and Range Road 3215 involving two trucks. No injuries were reported.

Shortly after 6:45 p.m., police responded to a third collision on Highway 16. An SUV collided with another stopped vehicle, causing a chain reaction among vehicles backed up from the earlier incident.

Saskatchewan Highway Patrol assisted with the response. No fatalities were reported. RCMP say all three files remain under investigation.
