A Lloydminster Catholic School Division bus carrying six students was struck by a pickup truck Friday morning. All the children are safe.
The collision happened around 8:30 a.m. at the corner of 57 Avenue and 50 Street in Lloydminster.
The bus was travelling eastbound on 50 Street. A vehicle on 57 Avenue failed to yield, according to a statement from LCSD.
The impact was strong enough to roll the other vehicle, a green Jeep pickup, onto its side. It came to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection.
RCMP ticketed the 39-year-old female driver driver of the Jeep, from Jasper, under Section 39 of Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act for failing to yield. The fine is $405. A ticket is not a finding of guilt, and the matter can still be contested in court.
Emergency crews assessed all six students at the scene. Every child was then transported to school with their bus rider.
LCSD contacted the families of all six students.
The division thanked emergency crews for how they handled the scene.
“We would like to thank Lloydminster Emergency Response Services and the RCMP for their care and compassion for our students,” the division said in a statement.
Crews handed out teddy bears to the children on board.
