A south Lloydminster neighbourhood was locked down for roughly 45 minutes Saturday evening as RCMP’s Emergency Response Team moved in on a home near the Servus Sports Centre.

More than a dozen vehicles carrying plainclothes and uniformed officers from Lloydminster RCMP, the Edmonton-based Emergency Response Team and a police service dog surrounded a residence in the 1600 block of 52B Avenue Close at approximately 5:30 p.m. June 27.

Officers used a loudspeaker to order Sheldon Stark to exit the home with his hands raised.

Two explosions then rocked the neighbourhood as tactical explosive devices were deployed to take the suspect into custody.

Residents nearby were asked to stay inside, away from doors and windows, while the operation unfolded.

Stark was later seen in handcuffs, being escorted to a waiting police vehicle. Two family members were also led from the home.

One woman shouted at officers as she was taken to a vehicle to warm up.

“You destroyed my home,” she said.

RCMP “K” Division public information officer Cpl. Mat Howell confirmed the details of the arrest Monday.

Sheldon Stark, 51, of Lloydminster, has been charged with aggravated assault. According to Howell, the investigation began with an assault in Vegreville. RCMP said the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Stark has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear before a judge by closed-circuit video on July 2.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

BorderPulse first reported the scene Saturday evening. Staff Sgt. Bruce MacLean, on scene at the time, confirmed one person had been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation. MacLean also confirmed the incident was not connected to a shots fired call near a Lloydminster hotel the evening before.

  1. The lady who was blaming the police for ruining her home, should have been placing the blame on Stark for not abiding by the police request to come out with his hands up. Thank you to the RCMP and the others involved in the investigation.
