The City of Lloydminster is warning residents to double check who they are calling for a ride as Viper Taxi, among others, is no longer allowed inside city limits.
In a public notice this week, the city confirmed several taxi companies are not authorized to operate within municipal boundaries after their Taxi Broker Application for 2026–2029 was refused.
Among those no longer permitted to operate are Border Taxi, Courtesy Cabs and Viper Taxi.
City officials say the refusal was issued due to non-compliance with municipal, provincial and federal legislation. As a result, the companies are not authorized to operate within Lloydminster or participate in the Seniors Taxi Program.
The city regulates the local taxi industry through municipal bylaw. That oversight includes approval of taxi brokers, drivers and vehicles operating within city limits.
As part of the licensing process, criminal record checks, driver abstracts and other investigations are routinely conducted to ensure compliance and reduce public safety risks.
Five companies remain licensed to operate in Lloydminster:

- Co-op Taxi
- Kings Cabs
- Lloyd Taxi
- Taxi FilCanadian
- Yellow Cabs
Residents, particularly those enrolled in the Seniors Taxi Program, are encouraged to confirm they are booking with an authorized provider. Viper Taxi, Border Taxi, and Courtesy Cabs are no longer authorized and should not be accepting seniors vouchers or fares.
More information on approved taxi services is available at Lloydminster.ca/Taxi.
