Vermilion RCMP responded to a report of a possible firearm outside a McDonald’s restaurant Friday evening after a witness saw a person stumbling through the parking lot with what appeared to be a handgun.
The call came in around 6 p.m. July 24.
Border Pulse observed the person taken into custody and placed in the back of a police vehicle before being removed from the scene.
The item turned out to be a lighter shaped like a firearm, RCMP said.
No charges were laid.
RCMP said items shaped like real firearms can be mistaken for the real thing, prompting a significant emergency response and posing a danger to the person carrying them.
Officers urged the public to consider how such items may be perceived by others before carrying them in public.
