Onion Lake RCMP arrested a man wanted on a federal warrant after a routine traffic stop last weekend.

Ryden Dillon-Giroux, 23, of Onion Lake, faces eight charges connected to an alleged firearm incident on Onion Lake Cree Nation.

RCMP said a victim reported on Sept. 11 that Dillon-Giroux pointed a firearm at them inside a residence. Investigators allege he also threatened the victim and broke a window. The victim did not report physical injuries.

Dillon-Giroux is charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief under $5,000.

He had been released from a correctional facility on Sept. 10 under statutory release conditions. Correctional Service Canada issued a warrant for his arrest the following day.

Mounties searched for Dillon-Giroux over the following days.

On Sept. 20, officers on proactive patrol stopped a vehicle with a burnt-out headlight in the Onion Lake area. Dillon-Giroux was a passenger and was arrested on the outstanding warrants.

He appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Sept. 21.

The charges have not been proven in court.
