A Cold Lake woman charged in a drug and firearms bust last month is now facing a second set of trafficking charges after RCMP stopped her vehicle on Highway 55.

Cold Lake RCMP conducted the traffic stop at approximately 10 p.m. on May 3. Officers arrested the driver and searched the vehicle, seizing approximately 50 grams of suspected cocaine.

Gwen Janvier, 43, of Cold Lake, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with release conditions – the latter related to similar offences.

Janvier was previously arrested April 23 during a search of a Cold Lake residence near 8 Street and 10 Avenue, where RCMP also seized cocaine, firearms, and items consistent with drug trafficking. She was charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled substance following that arrest and released on conditions.

She was released again following the May 3 arrest, after appearing before a justice of the peace. Janvier is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on May 20, the same date set for her earlier charges.

The Border Pulse has reached out to the Attorney General’s office to understand why this offender continues to be released into the community.

The charges have not been proven in court.
