Firefighters from across the R.M. of Wilton knocked down a structure fire north of Lone Rock, Sask., on Aug. 17, with no injuries reported.
Legacy Regional Protective Services, based out of the Wilton station, was dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to reports of a fire on Range Road 3273, about 1.6 kilometres from town.
Neighbours in the area told Border Pulse they could see smoke coming from the general direction before crews arrived.
Crews arrived to find the structure fully involved, with visible smoke and flames coming from the attic. A second alarm was struck, requesting assistance from the Marshall and Lashburn fire departments.
Crews from Lashburn and the R.M. of Wilton got the blaze under control and called a loss stop, meaning the blaze was contained with no further spread expected.
LRPS Chief Dean Peters said a neighbour stepped up to help by allowing crews to draw water from a nearby pool.
“He said we could use the water from his pool,” said Peters.
“It allowed us to get the incident under control quickly, not having to go a long distance to refill.”
A family member of those affected, Anya Neilson, thanked crews in a Facebook comment.
“Thank you to all the crews for all that you did yesterday for my boys and daughter-in-law,” expressed Neilson. “There are not enough words to express how grateful I am.”
Neilson also told Borderpulse the family could use the basics right now, groceries, personal hygiene items etc.. Small donations can be taken to the Maidstone Synergy Credit Union and left for the family.
Peters remind residents that in a structure fire, every second counts. Get out of the building, call 911 and stay out.
