Lloydminster RCMP are asking motorists to use caution after multiple collisions have been reported this afternoon.
Roadways, particularly side streets, have become coated in a thin layer of ice after the first freezing temperatures of this winter. Police say most crashes have involved vehicles travelling too fast for road conditions.
“Drive to roadway conditions, and slow down,” said RCMP “K” division public relations officer Mat Howell. “Give yourself extra time to stop and leave plenty of space between vehicles.”
City crews continue to sand and main routes are in not to bad of condition, but officers remind residents that cold temperatures and compacted snow can make untreated areas extremely slippery.
RCMP are urging drivers to take their time this weekend, change their tires if they haven’t and “please slow down”. Warning that even low-speed collisions can cause significant damage or injury when road conditions are icy.
