Lloydminster’s plan to breathe new life into its downtown has earned provincial recognition.
The Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) received the Saskatchewan Economic Developers Association (SEDA) Chairperson Award on Tuesday, Nov. 4, during the association’s annual conference. The honour highlights the city’s effort to support economic growth and build a more vibrant community core.
“We’re proud to see the DARP recognized at the provincial level,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “This award highlights the collective effort to strengthen Lloydminster’s economic future by investing in a downtown that supports local business, public spaces, and continued community growth.”
“The DARP’s success comes from a shared vision of what our downtown can become,” said Ben Harrison, chair of the DARP Committee. “This recognition reinforces the importance of long-term planning and collaboration in shaping a vibrant and resilient community core.”
Each year, SEDA presents its Special Recognition Award to individuals, organizations, or communities that show long-term commitment to growth and sustainability across Saskatchewan.

They look nice but there’s less room to park and no room at corners for a turning lane. Not much pedestrian traffic to enjoy it. Maybe you need to lower land taxes along there to support and encourage more businesses.
Was no one else in the category? It has taken away parking spots and made turning difficult at 50th & 50th. Maybe planting florals or shrubs instead of prairie grasses in the planters would “beautify” the area a bit more. I feel bad for the businesses who suffered during construction.
