A Lloydminster woman has been charged following Wednesday evening’s high-speed collision on 49th Avenue near the Legion.

Court records show Laquita Angus, 30, of Lloydminster, is facing the following charges:

  • Failing to stop at the scene of an accident
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Failing to stop for police

The charges stem from a collision that occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Feb. 11, when RCMP responded to what was described by witnesses as a vehicle travelling at an extremely high rate of speed.

An eyewitness previously told The Border Pulse they observed a vehicle travelling at what they estimated to be around 130 kilometers per hour before attempting to pass traffic near the post office.

“I looked and noticed the car was going really fast, so I didn’t pull out,” the witness said.

The witness reported the vehicle swerved to pass a truck, narrowly avoided two vehicles, then struck a FedEx truck before spinning out.

“I seen people running from the car towards the highway,” the witness said.

RCMP confirmed at the time that suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended. Police have not released further details regarding injuries.

A court date has been scheduled for Feb. 19. She was remanded in custody. The Border Pulse will continue to follow the case.
