Man charged after North Battleford stabbing

A 24-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault after a stabbing left two people injured in the early hours of April 25.

Battlefords RCMP responded to the 1700 block of 105th Street around 4 a.m. after receiving calls about a male yelling. Additional calls reported a seriously injured man inside a nearby residence.

Officers entered the home due to safety concerns. They located an adult male with stab wounds and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived. Both he and an adult female were transported to hospital.

Investigators determined an altercation between two adult males had taken place inside the residence. One man stabbed the other during the fight. A woman was also injured.

Police arrested the suspect outside another residence on 105th Street.

Charges

Shelwin Tootoosis, 24, of North Battleford faces one count of aggravated assault under section 268(2) of the Criminal Code and one count of assault with a weapon under section 267(a).

He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 27.

The investigation is ongoing. Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section is also involved.

A charge is not proof of guilt. Every accused person has the right to a fair trial.
