Enhanced holiday traffic enforcement by the Alberta RCMP resulted in nearly 1,000 tickets and multiple fatalities on Alberta roads during the final week of 2025.
Between Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, RCMP issued 998 tickets across the province as part of a province-wide traffic safety initiative.
Police say 242 tickets were issued for speeding, 31 for distracted driving and 21 for seatbelt infractions.
As part of the enforcement period, 121 drivers were removed from the road for impairment related to drugs or alcohol. That total included 80 Immediate Roadside Sanction FAILs and 23 WARNs.
Despite enforcement efforts, RCMP report 99 non-fatal injury collisions and six fatal collisions during the period. Seven people were killed.
“We are never happy to report fatal motor vehicle collisions,” said Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic.
“Everyone should have been able to make it home safely for the holidays. I encourage everyone to look out for each other on the roads. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.”
Police continue to remind drivers that traffic enforcement remains ongoing year-round and that impaired driving, speeding and distracted driving remain leading contributors to serious and fatal collisions.
