RCMP have advise as the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, many cabin and seasonal property owners are getting ready to close up for winter.

RCMP remind residents to take a few extra steps before locking up for the season.

Keep valuables out of sight and, when possible, take them home with you. Consider installing security cameras or motion-sensor lighting to discourage break-ins. Set indoor lights on timers and make the property look lived in, even while you’re away.

Keep a list of your belongings and make sure all doors, windows and outbuildings are locked.

Police also encourage owners to connect with neighbours. Ask a year-round resident to check on your cabin from time to time and report anything unusual.

Suspicious activity can be reported to your local RCMP detachment by calling 310-RCMP. Information can also be shared anonymously through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
