A 37-year-old man from Thunderchild First Nation is facing more than 20 charges after RCMP seized firearms, weapons and multiple types of drugs during a search of a residence earlier this month.
According to Turtleford RCMP, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Thunderchild First Nation on March 4 as part of an ongoing investigation.
During the search, police located and seized several weapons and a large quantity of drugs.
Items seized included a loaded handgun, an illegally modified firearm, numerous firearm parts including a loaded barrel capable of firing, thousands of rounds of ammunition, a butterfly knife and nun chucks.
Police also seized approximately 400 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 33 grams of crack cocaine and 26 grams of suspected cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Spencer Wapass of Thunderchild First Nation has been charged with multiple offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code.
The charges include:
- three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
- three counts of trafficking
- two counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon with ammunition
- three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- three counts of unsafe storage of a firearm
- three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to an order
- one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- one count of tampering with a serial number
RCMP said Wapass was already in custody at the time the charges were laid. He had been arrested March 2 on an outstanding warrant with assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team.
Wapass is scheduled to appear next in St. Walburg Provincial Court on March 17.
