Collisions, Sandy Beach, RCMP,

A suspicious vehicle investigation on Onion Lake Cree Nation turned into two high-speed pursuits and the recovery of a stolen truck last month, according to RCMP.

On Feb. 20 at approximately 10:45 a.m., Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a suspicious person outside a residence. Police were told an individual in a truck attended the property and broke the window of a vehicle parked outside.

Officers located a truck matching the suspect vehicle’s description shortly afterward and attempted a traffic stop.

The vehicle did not stop and fled at a high rate of speed.

RCMP asked nearby detachments along with Onion Lake Fire Rescue Peacekeepers to watch for the vehicle.

At approximately 2 p.m., Maidstone RCMP located a vehicle matching the description on Highway 3 heading west toward Highway 17. Officers attempted another traffic stop, but the truck again fled at high speeds toward the Onion Lake area.

Later that day, Onion Lake RCMP were notified by Onion Lake Fire Rescue Peacekeepers that the truck was parked outside a residence. Officers attended and arrested three individuals.

Police determined the truck had previously been reported stolen from Two Hills, Alta. The licence plate attached to the vehicle had also been reported stolen.

Following further investigation by Onion Lake and Maidstone RCMP, 24-year-old Loralee McAdam of Onion Lake is charged with:

  • flight from a peace officer
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

McAdam is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 1.

Police also charged 27-year-old Germain Gamble of Onion Lake with the same offences.

Gamble appeared in court March 5, where he pleaded guilty to the flight from police charge. He was sentenced to 161 days in custody and one year of probation. The remaining charges were withdrawn.

A third individual arrested during the investigation was released without charge.
