Santa Claus has been making his annual tour of Lloydminster primary schools this December, bringing laughter, excitement and a break from winter routines, thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Lloydminster.

From inside recess days to classrooms filled with anticipation, the visits have become a cherished tradition for students and staff alike.

At Father Gorman Community School, students in the Lloydminster Catholic School Division’s Junior Kindergarten program were among those welcoming Santa and his helpers.

Andrea Fallscheer, superintendent of learning, said the visit fits naturally into the season and the way young students experience school.

“The Kiwanis Club has such a wonderful tradition of spending time in our schools,” Fallscheer said.

“It’s such a treat for our students every year, and for our youngest learners, it’s a really special way to celebrate the Christmas season.”

Fallscheer said the day was built around play, discovery and excitement, which made Santa’s arrival feel like the perfect finale.

“They have a very special Christmas-themed day today,” she said.

“This is just one great way to top it all off.”

Across town at College Park School, principal Josie Gordon said Santa’s visit helps keep spirits high during the busiest stretch of the school year.

“Santa visits really help to reinforce the spirit of the season for our students,” Gordon said.

“It gives them a chance to celebrate together, have fun as a class, and enjoy a holiday tradition.”

With colder temperatures keeping students indoors more often, Gordon said moments like these matter.

“The days leading up to Christmas can feel long for our little ones,” she said.

“So having something special like this really changes up the routine and brings some extra cheer.”

Santa, meanwhile, said his goal is simple.

“Try and bring some happiness to the kids,” Santa said.

“Some of them don’t have a happy life, so we try and bring some into their lives.”

Even with Christmas fast approaching, Santa confirmed everything at the North Pole is on track.

“They’re starting to load up the sleigh,” he said.

“Everything’s running twenty-four seven.”

Mrs. Claus, portrayed by Kiwanis member Vera Gallant, said the school visits can mean more than many realize.

“For some children, this is the only gift that they get,” Gallant said.

“With times being tougher, it’s even more important for us to be doing this.”

Gallant said Kiwanis quietly works year-round to support children in the community, with the school visits remaining one of the most meaningful traditions.

“If we can brighten up the lives of children, even give them a little bit of happiness,” she said,

“then all the work is worth it.”

Kiwanis’ Festival of Lights at Kiwanis Park is also underway and will run until Jan. 7, offering another chance for families to experience a bit of Christmas magic close to home.
