Two separate calls for service on Monday, Jan. 5 marked the first set of responses for county fire crews in 2026.

Just before 11 a.m., Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society responded to a report of a vehicle rollover on Highway 16 near Range Road 70. Firefighters arrived, established traffic control and stabilized the scene.

Shortly before noon, tones dropped again for Dewberry Fire & Rescue and Clandonald Fire & Rescue to assist Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Medavie Health Services West – Northeast Alberta at a second incident.

The call involved a semi-truck in the ditch north of Highway 893 near Highway 640. Fire crews completed a scene size-up, managed traffic and assisted with patient care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 2 p.m. and turned over to the RCMP for further investigation. No further details were released.
