Alberta RCMP officer facing fraud charges

An Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer and his spouse are facing multiple fraud-related charges following an investigation by the thier Serious Crimes Branch.

According to a release from the Alberta RCMP, the investigation began in May 2024 after police were alerted to a possible fraud involving a serving RCMP officer and his wife against Piikani Resource Development Ltd..

As a result of the investigation, Cst. Grant Shade, 42, and Katrina Shade, 40, both residents of Pincher Creek, Alta., have each been charged with fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000.

Police say Katrina Shade was an employee of Piikani Resource Development Ltd. at the time of the alleged offences. Cst. Shade is a member of the Piikani RCMP detachment.

Cst. Shade is also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Both accused are scheduled to make their first court appearance on Feb. 18, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice.

RCMP said Cst. Shade has been a member of the force since 2021 and is currently suspended with pay. Because the matter is before the courts, police say no further comment will be provided.
