Police say a replica firearm was involved in Thursday’s incident at Lloydminster City Hall that prompted a heavy police response and public concern.

The Border Pulse was the first outlet to report the incident as it unfolded on Jan. 8.

According to a follow-up release from the Lloydminster RCMP, officers were called to City Hall after receiving a report that a firearm had been pointed at people inside the building.

RCMP responded within minutes and intercepted the suspect as he was leaving the area. Officers arrested the suspect without incident.

A search incidental to arrest determined the firearm was a replica. Police confirmed no one was injured during the incident or the arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Stephen Thunderblanket, 35, of Cut Knife, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Thunderblanket was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Jan. 13.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
