Lloydminster Fire and Rescue were required to make a high angle rescue on the city’s east side today around 12 p.m..
At approximately 11:35, tips started coming into the newsroom about a potential emergency ongoing at Driven Energy Ball Diamonds.
Upon our arrival, Lloydminster Fire Rescue had multiple personnel and vehicles on scene. They were in the process of making a rescue plan for two individuals who were stuck at a 45 degree angle in a picker in the middle of one of the fields.
Officials on scene noted the individuals had been contracted by the city to change the lightbulbs on the diamond lights. Sometime during the operation of the picker, it failed and left them chilling in the basket, awaiting rescue.
Lloydminster Fire Rescue called for their aerial ladder truck to be brought on scene. The current truck is on loan from Cenovus while ours is in Red Deer getting some maintenance. Two firefighters entered the basket and brought themselves around 20ft in the air, where they begin to safely transfer the stranded men from the defunct picker.
The process took about 15 minutes from the arrival of the ladder truck. There were no injuries.
