Battlefords RCMP have arrested a man wanted in connection to a January assault on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation.
Thirty-five-year-old Lonnie Moosomin was arrested Feb. 7 on the First Nation. He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 9, 2026.
The charge stems from an incident reported Jan. 12 around 1:30 a.m., when Battlefords RCMP received a call about an armed individual at a residence on the First Nation.
Officers responded and determined two males had assaulted a person inside the home. The victim reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.
Police say one of the suspects then threatened occupants with a firearm and discharged it inside the residence. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the firearm discharge.
With assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Police Dog Services, officers located and arrested one suspect nearby.
As a result of the initial investigation, 34-year-old Byron Wahobin of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation was charged with:
- one count of reckless discharge of a firearm
- two counts of pointing a firearm
- one count of uttering threats
- one count of assault
- one count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer
- four counts of weapons possession contrary to an order
- one count of possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized
- one count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- one count of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
Wahobin appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Jan. 13, 2026.
Following continued investigation, Moosomin was charged with one count of assault under Section 266 of the Criminal Code.
Both matters remain before the court.
