Good morning border region it is Tuesday, Jan. 13. From a shooting to trafficking bear parts, here is your morning Border Brief.

News:

1 – A shooting on the east side has left a 29-year-old male in hospital after police say he tried to stop someone from stealing his vehicle.
2 – A traffic stop outside of Maidstone has led to the recovery of drugs and multiple charges for an Alberta woman.
2 – A bear parts trading local resident has found themselves on the wrong side of the law and can no longer hunt.

Commodities:
March spring wheat
closed at $5.11 per bushel, down about 6 cents on the day.
March canola closed at $620.80 per tonne, slipping nearly $3.
March feeder cattle closed at $356.18 per hundredweight, up about $1.50.
March oats closed at $2.93 per bushel, down sharply on the session.
Feed barley is trading around $236 per tonne in central Alberta, according to the latest Alberta Agriculture weekly market review.
Yellow peas are trading around $255 per tonne, based on the same report.


Energy Markets:

As of 5:30 a.m., Western Canadian Select crude was trading around US$44.97 per barrel, up nearly 2 per cent on the day.

West Texas Intermediate was trading around US$60.76 per barrel, also higher in early trading.

Shares of Cenovus Energy and Strathcona Resources were modestly higher in Monday trading.

Traffic:

Roads in all directions are considered bare this morning outside of a single section from Alcurve to Onion Lake. The only other ongoing issue is at Deer Creek Bridge.


Weather:
A mix of sun and cloud today with a high of 7 degrees. As of 6 a.m. at the airport, it’s 2 degrees with wind out of the west southwest at 32 gusting to 41 km/h.
