Good morning Lloydminster and welcome to today’s Border Brief. The weekend editions are a little shorter, but still give you everything you need before you head out the door.
A heads up this morning, Environment Canada is tracking a risk of freezing rain later today. Temperatures are also expected to climb above zero for the first time in several weeks. Roads are partially covered across much of the region, with more details coming up below.

Headlines:
1 – A firearm was determined a replica after being pointed at people inside Lloydminster City Hall Thursday.
2 – College Ave. sees it’s first collision of 2026 during last nights dinner hour.
3 – The recently passed land use bylaws is being brought back to council to address some concerns on Monday during the first GPC of the year.

Commodities:
March spring wheat closed at $5.17 per bushel, down about 1 cent on the day.
March canola closed at $623.70 per tonne, slipping just over $2.
March feeder cattle closed at $354.70 per hundredweight, down about $3.
March oats closed at $3.04 per bushel, lower on the session.
Feed barley is trading around $236 per tonne in central Alberta, according to the latest Alberta Agriculture weekly market review.
Yellow peas are trading around $255 per tonne, based on the same report.
Western Canadian Select Hardisty crude closed at $44.10 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate was trading around US$58.26 per barrel.

Roads:
Road conditions around the region are in fair today. From Mundare to Vermilion 16 is considered snow covered, same as Lloydminster all the way through to nearly Saskatoon. Heading north it’s partially covered to Onion Lake however near Turtleford and St. Walburg the roads are registered as bare and dry.

Weather:
Some of our snow is going to disappear over the next few days, today, it will be cloudy this morning with a high of +3, becoming partially cloudy this afternoon. Tonight’s low is -1. As of 6 a.m. at the airport it’s -8 with a windchill of -14. The winds are out of the south southeast at 18 km/h and visibility is good at 16 km.

The Bandits beat the Cold Lake Ice 7-4 last night at the Cenovus Energy Hub, they are on the road at 8 p.m. tonight to take on the Vegreville Rangers. The Bobcats took the lead early and never looked back beating the Bonnyville Pontiacs 5-1. They return home at 7 p.m. tonight for a rematch with the Pontiacs. The Oilers play the Kings tonight at 8 p.m. and the Flames battle Sidney Crosby and the Penguins at 1:30 this afternoon.
